In an interview with CNBC on June 4, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said, “only Bitcoin is pure digital gold”. This statement reaffirms his belief in the cryptocurrency, despite the fact that he sold most of his holdings.
At the ongoing Money 20/20 conference in Amsterdam, Wozniak said he “bought into” comments made by Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO, on bitcoin becoming the world’s “single currency” in 10 years.
“I buy into what Jack Dorsey says, not that I necessarily believe it’s going to happen, but because I want it to be that way, that is so pure thinking,” Wozniak said.
Wozniak maintains he is not an “investor”, despite purchasing $700 worth of bitcoin to experiment with its uses as a mode of payment. “I have one bitcoin and two ether,” he said.
Nevertheless, for the Apple co-founder, bitcoin represents a different class of crypto asset:
“Only Bitcoin is pure digital gold… and I totally buy into that. All the others tend to give up some of the aspects of Bitcoin. For example, being totally decentralized and having no central control. That’s the first one they have to give up to try to have a business model.”
Experts believe that now is the best time to buy bitcoin as its prices continue to be on the downtrend.
