According to a now deleted tweet from Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, Google had tried to recruit him to join their team.
The tweet was reported to include a screenshot from a representative from Google asking if joining the Google team “ma[d]e sense for you now or in the future.” Buterin also included a poll in the tweet, asking the crypto-twitterverse to vote on whether he should take the job or not.
If Buterin were to take the job, it would mean that he would have to leave the Ethereum community to work for Google and many were not okay with that. Before Buterin had deleted the said tweet, the poll had reached over 2,000 responses with the majority choosing “NO”.
Earlier this year, Google announced that they had two blockchain projects in the works: an auditing system and a cloud operations system. Perhaps the tech giant wanted Buterin to help work on the existing projects or maybe even a whole new one.
At 24 years old, Buterin had already achieved so much in the crypto space. Those against the move to Google believes that there is so much more in store for the young Ethereum founder and that his talent should not be “caged in.”
