Jack Dorsey: The Internet Deserves a Native Currency

Jack Dorsey revealed his stand on cryptocurrencies at a blockchain and cryptocurrency conference saying that the internet “deserves” a native currency.

Twitter Inc. and Square Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey believes that “the internet deserves a native currency; it will have a native currency,” as he explained to crypto enthusiasts at Consensus, a blockchain and crypto conference held in New York:

“I don’t know if it’ll be Bitcoin or not. I hope it will be.”

Dorsey has always been outspoken about his fondness of cryptocurrencies. In 2014, under Dorsey’s lead, Square Inc. had started allowing merchants to accept bitcoin. In 2016, he took to Twitter and expressed his desire for a thriving cryptocurrency market, saying that he would “love to see a digital currency thrive.”

His view is not often shared by those at Square Inc. as Dorsey admitted that there have been debates and fights over the topic. Some board members of the company also prove resistant to crypto.

However, Dorsey remains optimistic:

“This technology is a fundamental shift to our world and can have so many positive outcomes. We have to do the work to educate regulators and educate the SEC why this technology is important.”
