CheapAir.com, online travel booking agency said that switch bitcoin payment processors, on Friday.
CheapAir.com began accepting bitcoin in 2013. The booking agency revealed that it is eyeing to accept bitcoin payment through Bitpay.
“We were recently informed by our processing partner, Coinbase, that they will no longer support ‘custodial’ solutions for merchants, and are removing a number of the tools and features that we rely on to accept bitcoin from CheapAir.com shoppers,” CheapAir wrote. “These changes are scheduled to occur in a matter of weeks.”
Since traditional airlines and hotel services only take fiat currencies as payment, the key to the platform’s ability to accept cryptocurrency is through converting the bitcoin it receives to fiat currencies, says CheapAir.
In 2014, CheapAir announced that they will accept litecoin and dogecoin and now they are open to also accept other cryptocurrecies.
